Anatech Instruments have been privileged to
be involved in two international projects involving soil,
plant and water analysis.
Kruger park, Skukuza labs received funding from
the Mellon Foundation based in the US to start a research
lab, whereby field researchers based in Kruger would be able
to analyse their soil, plant and water samples at Skukuza instead
of sending them to outside labs. This would speed up their
access to results and also increase the sampling that could
be done. Prof Tracey Benning ,based at the University of San
Francisco headed the project. She approached Anatech based
on our excellent international relationships with supplier’s
worldwide to set up the lab. Vanessa Bunn, Anatech Instruments
worked with Prof Benning to kit out the lab. Instrumentation
was installed and tested and training given to Louise Goosen,
who is running the lab and supporting the researchers at the
Skukuza lab.
Secondly, we were also proud to supply a Lachat
flow Injection system to Madzivhandila College of agriculture
in Limpopo, on the border of Punda Maria, Kruger Park to analyse
soil, water and plant materials. This college has recently
been reopened to students and the Icate project funded by
the Netherlands allowed the purchase of this instrument. Samples
come in from farmers in the area, reasearchers, environmental
consultants and local municipalities.
Obert Nethononda, lab manager had persisted
in his attempts to purchase the Lachat. He researched the
product thoroughly before purchasing and was told of its robustness, ease
of use, and low fuss operation. In addition, Anatech’s
reputation of excellent back up service and technical expertise
sealed the deal.
Vanessa Bunn, Anatech Instruments has said that
“we intend to grow this section of our business. We
are able to provide many of the essential products required
in soil, plant and water analysis.”
